it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergarten students are beginning to learn how to read. I want them to love reading and build their reading fluency. By listening to books, they will feel more confident with their reading, enjoy reading, and become better readers!
I have a wonderful kindergarten class that is hard working and very determined.
They attend a public school in a low income, Hispanic community in California. Our school is low in funds and supplies. I try to make due with what I have, but I would love to give them something special to thank them for their achievements as well as having some fun in the classroom.
My Project
My goal this year is for all my kindergarten students to learn to read at a first grade reading level. A listening center and audio books will encourage more reading and increase their reading fluency as they have fun listening and reading stories. I will be able to create a reading center for my students, where they can get extra reading experiences which they might not receive at home due to lack of books and/or parents not being able to read in English to their children.
Not many of my students have the opportunity to visit local libraries to read or listen to stories or buy books.
Most of the books that are read aloud to them in English is by their teacher. With a listening/reading center they can hear and read more books expanding their learning and a love for reading. I believe my students can achieve anything they set their hearts to, and with your help they can reach for the stars.
