Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a Math resource teacher at a wonderful (level 1+) Chicago Public School. I teach over 725 students per week that are in Kindergarten through Third grade. My students are hard working, intelligent and enthusiastic, but they all learn in various ways.
The students I teach come from various cultures, with a variety of family dynamics.
Over 40% of the students I teach are ELL's and about 93% come from low income households. The families of these students are dedicated to their children, but often money and resources are an issue. I don't have control of their family lives, but I do have control of how they learn and that each student reaches and exceeds their potential in order to become dedicated and contributing members in our society.
My Project
The materials being requested with help aid in my instruction and my students' learning. Students can work at these centers after they have completed their work, in order to enhance their Mathematical skills in any domain, such as geometry, telling time, money, place value and many more. The students will be able to work independently or with a small collaborative group, where they will also be enhancing their social and teamwork skills. These centers could also be used with a small group of students that may need additional differentiated support through visuals and hands-on, tactile examples.
Your generosity and support of students you don't know will help impact every child's learning of Math, but also their views of the community will change.
In a city, where violence is prevalent, students will find the good in people and be inspired to do the same for others.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
