This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This fall, I will be taking a new job as a music teacher at an elementary school that hasn't had a music teacher this past year. I believe music is essential to students' happiness and well-being, and I am so excited to begin working with my new students.
When students are able to sing, play instruments, and move to express themselves, their joy is evident.
The materials in this project will help get my students up and moving during music class. They will use scarves and ribbons to creatively move to music. As a class, they will play drums, egg shakers, and more. COVID-19 led many students to learn virtually for past 1-2 years. Creating experiences for my students where they are dancing and playing together in-person is so important to me, because it provides students the opportunity to rekindle human interaction and have FUN moving their bodies and playing instruments. Some of the items on this list are for our classroom's "calm down corner," which is a relaxing place in our room that helps students regulate their emotions. Having fidgets and soft pillows available helps students with their social-emotional needs.
