Have You Seen My Cat?

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn from this author and illustrator Eric Carle. His famous books are so colorful and well-illustrated that my ABA, ESD, or bilingual students will enjoy them very much.

My Students

“The arts are an essential element of education, just like reading, writing, and arithmetic…music, dance, painting, and theater are all keys that unlock profound human understanding and accomplishment.” ~William Bennett, Former US Secretary of Education.

My second graders and my ESD students are bright and very interested in learning about Visual Arts.

My students are sixty second grade children from the English-Spanish Bilingual Program and twenty students are from Special Education sixth through eighth grade. Almost all of my students come from low-income households.

The families of my students are from Central America, Haiti, Brazil, Colombia, Morocco or the United States. Almost all of my students were born in Boston, MA. My students are learning to write and read in Spanish and English. They love to draw, paint, and build paper sculptures. They are happy when they have art supplies and did great art activities. In these difficult times, my students' parents lost their jobs and cannot afford to buy art supplies because they are concerned about obtaining food.

My Project

There have been many renowned artists and illustrators who have achieved this high level of notoriety, Eric Carle is one of my favorites for children. Eric Carle has a special way of approaching children through color, shape and words. Each of his books also brings a message or lesson to the children. By the end of these books, as with all Carle stories, they are all as they should be and the main character's problem has been solved. These are just a few of the stories that, with knowledge of Carle's past, we can see his own feelings manifest to help children "build bridges" as children go through the stages of life.

My students are excited to learn more about Erick Carle's books and create beautiful collages inspired by his books.

With your generosity in donating these books and art supplies, my little students will have the opportunity to create beautiful paper collages, increase their own creativity, express their own opinions, and solve their own problems. As a visual arts teacher, I have done extensive research and read different author's books, my students need to read and learn from these books. Now I really need your support to make this a reality.

Thanks for everything!
