This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade class and I had our dream come true when a flat panel television and a DVD player were generously funded. However, we need a cart to keep the television safely secured while in use and while it's being stored.

I teach 25 wonderful first graders in an inner city school in New York state.

Many of them are English Language Learners. They understand so much when they are able to watch an educational video. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and it is so true with my students. Many of the children are visual learners. They are so interested in topics as diverse as animals to artists! The television will also be used by the other first grade class. In addition I teach a group of first and second graders for two periods a week. We'll be able to use the television as part of our special study group. Last year we learned about dinosaurs and this year we're doing art.

My Project

Since my first grade class already had a flat screen television and a DVD player funded through the generosity of donorschoose we've been on cloud nine! The children are thrilled because they'll be able to watch National Geographic for Kids videos, as well as, books that have been made in to movies. We can use the DVD to compare and contrast the book with the movie. We also have videos with real world connections such as How Jellybeans are Made. Writing a "How-To" is part of our first grade curriculum.

The funding of this cart is critical to the use of the television and DVD player.

We need to keep the TV on a stand specially made for flat screen televisions. This way it can be safely transported for use by the other first grade class! It can be safely locked up at the end of the day. I was so excited to get this equipment for the children. Please help me to keep it safe, so that it can be used for years to come!
