This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are bright faced and excited to learn each day they walk into the classroom. I teach in a low-income, Title I school.
I teach 5th graders who are eager to dive deeper into the world around them and learn more through their own investigations and discovery.
I have a wide range of students with many different backgrounds and all types of home lives. But in school, we work on a safe and loving environment where they can be themselves and feel comfortable doing it!
My Project
I want for my students to be able to have an idea on how they want to learn and have the resource to make it possible. Giving them multiple choices for where they want to sit, like the chairs, gives them a sense of ownership of their ability to choose how they want to take control of their learning. I am also constantly looking for new and interesting books to add to my classroom library. Keeping their reading interest is of utmost importance and having the choice of books means I can keep that love alive. I want my students to be able to think of how they want to create, present, or express their ideas and their work and be able to have the resources right there in the classroom to say, "yes, you can!" Different colored paper allows them to create something new and different. If they make the choice in their learning, they are making steps toward keeping that information and that thinking to use as life long learners.
