Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Like all children in the world, children with special needs have the right to high quality educational opportunities. Research informs us that instructional and educational technology may enhance, increase or improve development across all domains, enabling them to be in-the-world they live in.

The 12 students in the Preschool Collaborative Program that I teach are children with special needs.

Some of them are dually enrolled while most attend preschool from 8:00am to 11:00am, Monday to Friday. Their ages range from 3 years old to 5 years old. Basically, the children stay in the same classroom for two years, playing and learning together with another group of 20 children who are typically developing in the same age ranges. Because our school belongs to the high poverty section of the community, our classroom has no Internet connection, no computer and no pads. Many of my students have not seen or worked with high tech gadgets.

My Project

The iPads will be used as additional opportunities in enhancing learning and development. A number of developmentally appropriate software apps can be uploaded to the iPads. These will offer child-friendly and colorful visuals that are engaging and are critical to children's learning. Children will have easy access to current information as opposed to outmoded information. The iPads will offer differentiated instruction in language and mathematics (phonics, word building, letters, shapes and numbers recognition) that will complement teacher instructions. In addition, the iPads can serve as reinforcement for positive behavior.

My students belong to the digital world of high tech.

Help us bring them into their world in order for them to access its benefits. Help us provide them the opportunity to enjoy the best of the digital generation.
