The requested supplies will allow me and my students to prepare for a monthly "HAVE A SIT WITH A STRANGER" meeting. I will invite 10-12 local small business owners, school employees, or local community members to join us for a 45-minute roundtable event.
The goal of this event is to increase community involvement, create future leaders, prepare students for future careers, and allow our community to positively influence our students!
This event will be student-led, with formal introductions and guidelines. In preparation, our class will create "question cards" that will be available at each "round table." We will have one community member and two students at each round table. They will take turns drawing question cards to help lead the conversation and to learn about one another, their role(s) in our community, and future plans to make our community/school better.
As a veteran teacher, I often hear the comment, " This iPhone generation doesn't know how to communicate." I can't disagree, but what I can do is provide those students with an opportunity to learn to communicate in a healthy, safe environment while engaging their possible future employers in the school setting.
I appreciate your willingness to help make this project a reality for my students. The listed supplies will be used to:
-Create "question cards"
-Create flyers/posters and advertisement
-Create posters with directions to our Round Table Event
