it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine being a five year old who has to sit on a broken chair all day in your classroom. My students love school but struggle staying focused because most of the classroom chairs are broken and have become a complete distraction.
My 32 kindergarteners are an eager bunch of learners.
Most of my students are English Language Learners and come from low income families. Despite challenges, my students have a strong desire to learn and look forward to coming to school everyday. For many, this year is their first schooling experience and I would like to make it as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately, my school has limited resources and does not have the funding to supply my classroom with the basics such as new chairs.
My Project
I have 32 students but not enough chairs for my the computer center, dramatic play area and teacher center. The 32 chairs that are currently in the classroom are broken, distracting and simply not enough. My students complain all day about how the chair legs move and the seats are also broken. They are so old that it has become impossible to repair them. New chairs will help my students stay focused on their work instead of how much their chair shakes.
Young children learn best when they are in a comfortable environment with minimal distractions.
It is only they start of the school year but I already see how distracting these chairs are. New chairs will keep my young students focused and ready to learn.
