My students are like little baby chicks that are still growing in their eggs. Right now, they are learning the basic skills of reading and math, but by the end of the year they will hatch out on their way to first grade.
Our school is amazing and everyone works together to create a fun and engaging learning environment.
My students are the cutest, most outgoing kindergartners ever. They want to learn and do the best that they can and always strive to do their best. They love making real life connections to everything that they learn. As kindergarteners, they learn best by having hands on experiences.
My Project
Imagine being in Kindergarten and walking into your classroom where on the counter sits an incubator. In the incubator are chicken eggs that you are eagerly waiting to see hatch. For weeks you have been learning about chickens. Everyday you find out how the chick has been growing inside and how different it is day by day. Finally, you hear a little chirping sound from the back of the room. You excitedly gather around as you watch the baby chicks strategically make their way out of their eggs. They have hatched! You can't believe that you saw that right before your own eyes! You have been learning about them for so long and you finally get to see them in real life. The day you get to hold the baby chicks is the day that all of your learning is made into a real life experience.
A lot of my students don't have the opportunity to be able to see how animals grow and develop.
I want to give them that opportunity and make it a hands on experience. We could read books and talk about how a chick turns into a chicken, but the fact that we can make it hands on makes their learning more concrete. Not only with this benefit my class but we will be sharing the experience with the whole kindergarten team. Many students will get to have this wonderful learning opportunity.
