Help me give my students a connection to our natural world with a spring science experience and allow my students to watch chicken and duck eggs grow and develop into baby chicks.

My Project

Please help support science, language, literacy, and art in our classroom. The COVID-19 pandemic has effected the lives and learning of young children in our school demographic, as it limited their experiences of interaction with each other. Being in quarantine also limited their opportunities to explore, share and describe the natural world around them. Research shows that children learn best when they are motivated, inspired and can make connections. Science experiments are a great way inspire and motivate young children. Hands-on experiences will spark interest in other academic areas, such as reading and writing. Through this project, my students can explore how an embryo develops inside of a chicken egg, over time. Class discussions will cover life cycles, other natural cycles, and compare similarities and differences through the various stages of embryo development. Students will have opportunities to practice observational skills, while journaling, drawing, exploring and explaining their investigations. Follow-up literacy and comprehension lessons will coincide with our examinations, using the associated texts, and relating to chickens, life cycles and agriculture.
