My Students
I have a richly diverse and multicultural class. They come from many ethnic groups, levels of parental education, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Sometimes, it is the child from the most challenging environment that surprises me the most.
My classroom is composed of very creative, inquisitive students.
Something that they all share is a love of learning and a desire to be able to dig deeper and find answers to their questions. They love challenges and problem solving. They are so eager to learn and demonstrate what they are thinking and feeling.
My Project
Most of my students have never seen animals in born in a natural environment, nor have they experienced a embryo life cycle. They have limited understanding of how we get our food or our responsibility to our environment. Using the NGSS and Utah SEEd standards, students will be able to ask questions, plan investigations, collect data, design solutions, construct explanations, and communicate information about how energy is cycled through natural systems.
Students develop empathy and resiliency when they see animals overcome their own natural hurdles.
Having an opportunity to interact with newly hatched chicks also provides a social-emotional component to learning as students work together on a real life science learning experience.
