My students need a digital library to supplement books lost due to Hurricane Harvey, and are additionally being taught by a traveling teacher (mobile classroom that switches each class period).

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A spirited bunch of sprightly sprats who are in recovery from the horrid Hurricane Harvey.
My students are inquisitive, energetic, and eclectic learners.
Pre-existing lower income socio-economic demographics are considerably aggravated by the floodwaters of natural disaster. Nevertheless on their first day returning to school students were eager to learn and divest themselves of previous woes. This funding opportunity will help return some supplies back to students and bolster their equitable access to education that connects them to a global community of learners.
As a social studies teacher I merely seek resources to support students in such a direction to diverse the learning process and opportunities.
My Project
Most of my students read one to two grade levels below average. Therefore, these Kindle devices will promote a culture of literacy and reading that help to boost not only standardized test scores, but also encourage autonomous literacy and enjoyment of student reading habits.
Our classroom library was lost during Hurricane Harvey, and now we must also be a mobile classroom (each classroom switches in our host school each period).
So, instead of teaching students that books are more that clunky, archaic tools from a bygone era this project wants to show students that reading is a digital, mobile, and resilient medium to encourage lifelong growth and learning.
Beyond general literacy, the Kindle fire for kids allows for specialized learning for social studies content that helps to break up the monotony of basic learning. Students need to realize that social studies is an exciting, vibrant array of opportunities that can connect them to the broader global mosaic. Although many of our kids usually do not travel farther than their own neighborhood, I want them to know that technology, literacy, and opportunities are simply waiting for them to broaden their horizons and connect them to the global community.
