My Students

Guten Tag! As a German teacher, I am always looking to bring current and interesting material to my students about culture and language. My students are exposed to German from 1st-6th grade in hopes that they continue the language in middle and high school. I continue their exposure to culture and language at an intermediate school that has 5th-6th grade.

My school is a Title I school and the closest most of my students will be to Germany is through books and pictures.

I want them to experience as much as they can to not only build interest in the language but also to have a greater understanding of international culture. My students are enthusiastic and curious about many parts of German culture and love seeking out new information. I want to be able to provide them with information with a vibrant and expansive classroom library.

My Project

Even though I am German teacher, promoting reading and reading comprehension skills is one of my primary goals. As a Harry Potter fan who grew up during the release of the books and films, it has been wonderful to see that students I teach are getting interested in the series. Many parents who grew up during the introduction of Harry Potter have passed their love of the series to their children and they are now entering my classroom! Therefore, several fellow HP fans and I have gotten together to promote reading through the beloved series.

The goal of our Harry Potter literary group is to engage students in the series and pair our readings with various creative, collaborative, writing and exploratory activities and STEM projects.

In order for us to begin our group, we are in need of copies of the books for students to check out from us to complete their readings as our library does not have enough sets to cover the number of group members. In addition, we would like to expose those who have already read the series to alternative way to read the series (through the illustrated copies or the audiobooks) or to explore other books pertaining to the series like the textbooks or character guide.
