Harnessing the Power of Technology to Teach Tolerance!
My students need 3 - 11.6 inch laptops and 3 laptop sleeves in order to bridge the digital divide and be granted access to the technology they desperately need.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Moss's classroom raised $841

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I teach are enthusiastic, curious, and passionate about learning. Learning about other countries & cultures engages them and sparks their curiosity to learn more about how children around the world experience life.
Nearly all of the children I teach here at our Title I school in the inner city come from hard-working immigrant parents that strongly value education.
Although many of my students come from backgrounds of substantial economic hardship, you wouldn't know it by looking at their eager faces. They love coming to school and learning new things.
My Project
While the United States, as a whole, surpasses most other nations when it comes to the richness of technological resources, vast inequities have been documented. Minority and low-income populations have consistently been shown to have less access to technological resources. Whether it's at home or school, more affluent communities enjoy the benefits of more computer resources.
My students enjoy learning about children from different cultures and countries.
I wish to harness the awesome power of the internet not only to bridge the digital divide, but to expose my 5th grade students to the wondrous diverse world that lives outside the confines of our classroom.
Embracing cultural diversity is an important part of teaching tolerance in the elementary classroom. The classroom laptops will enable students to open the windows to the larger world. By researching other countries and cultures the children will broaden their awareness and acceptance of those who appear different than them. At our core human beings are much more similar than we are different. Learning to value diversity instead of shun it, creates a kinder, gentler world for everyone.
Thanks to a previous Donor's Choose project, I was able to bring 4 laptops into the classroom. With a classroom of 30 students much more are needed. I thank you in advance for moving us further along the digital path of learning.
