My Students
Ever wonder where certain instruments get their origin? Well, who would have thought that the harmonica had its beginning in China, certainly not my students!
My fourth graders are a hard working, interested group of students who enjoy new topics and challenges.
They are the leaders in our small K-4 elementary school and they are proud to fill those shoes. When I think about introducing them to this wonderful and mystifying instrument, I know they will accept the challenge!
My Project
Having these harmonicas at our disposal, will allow us to experience the instrument that originated in China, a country not well known perhaps for its Blues harmonica traditions. We will experience an introduction on how to play the harmonica, including the basics and how to maintain the instrument, as well as explore the many styles of music it lends itself to. A performance at our spring concert might be a nice culminating activity.
In the end, this donation gives our students that extra musical experience that you might not find anywhere else.
It also makes it hands on with the instrument, allows for small group and partner activities, and provides a great look into history and culture.
