Harlem's Newest Speech & Debate Team Needs Your Help!
My students need a portable filing tub, highlighters, hanging file folders and legal pads so that they can organize their research for Speech & Debate tournaments.
Harlem high school students are trying to start a Speech & Debate Team from scratch, and they need your help!
Our team does not have money budgeted from the school to purchase supplies necessary for training and for participation in tournaments (specifically: the tools needed for research, including research tubs, files, legal pads, and highlighters). Since our school primarily serves students who come from low-income families, asking students to provide their own supplies seems discriminatory and unfair.
The good news is that we have a team of about a dozen high school students who are ready, willing and able to start practicing and to start competing. A few supplies will enable these dedicated students to organize their research in a way that makes competition possible (and victory likely!)
By your donation, you will make it possible for these students to successfully represent their school at Speech & Debate tournaments around New York City, starting just as soon as they acquire these supplies!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
