Harlem Renaissance Café: Inspiring Young Voices Through Culture & Collaboration

Help me give my students a fun Harlem Renaissance Sports Café-themed ELA classroom with tables, chairs, and a rug that creates and celebrates culture, encourages collaboration, and builds reading, writing, and communication skills for lifelong success.

My Project

The two round tables, sling accent chairs, adjustable floor chairs, and cozy rug will turn my classroom into a Harlem Renaissance Sports Café where flexible seating helps students work together in small groups and really connect with what they’re reading and writing. These comfy spots will make them feel safe and welcome, ready to share their ideas and learn from each other.

My goal with this project is to build my students’ reading, writing, and communication skills in a space that celebrates their culture and sparks creativity.

By bringing in the rich history of the Harlem Renaissance alongside sports and teamwork, I want my students to grow in confidence, think deeply, and find pride in their heritage as they learn.

My students come from all kinds of backgrounds, each with their own stories and talents. When they have a space that respects who they are and encourages them to work together, they shine. This project will help them become strong communicators and thoughtful readers and writers who are ready for whatever comes next.
