This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We listen to recorded music during almost every lesson, but our current stereo just does not do the music justice. The sound quality is not great, and sometimes it just does not play! My students deserve better.
My students attend a public charter elementary school in New York.
Almost 100% are African-American or Hispanic, and many have parents who have recently immigrated to this country. The students are eager to learn about music from many cultures, including their own. They love singing songs, playing instruments, and discovering new things about music. When we listen to recorded music, it not only gives us an authentic representation of how a particular song is performed, but also an example of music that can be discussed and analyzed.
My Project
I tried out many different stereos, but this one has an excellent sound quality in a compact size. This will ensure students hear the best quality example of the music we are learning. The stereo has a five disc player and an iPod dock, so I will have nearly endless musical examples at my fingertips. I can seamlessly transition from one musical activity to the next, since I will not have to change CDs in the middle of class. Those moments saved in transition time will add up to many more completed musical activities over the course of a year.
My students deserve the best resources available.
Their eagerness inspires me every day to work my hardest, and the materials in my classroom should be top notch as well. With a new, high quality stereo, my students will hear music represented at its best at all times.
