Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students work very hard to make social, emotional, and academic progress at school. Many of our students enter school having less exposure to English (both spoken and in print) and far fewer educational experiences which contribute to an achievement gap with their grade level peers. Students come to school so excited to learn and grow. They set social, emotional, and academic goals and they work hard to achieve them.

Our teachers work extremely hard day in and day out, week after week to provide highly engaging, meaningful and rigorous learning experiences for our students.

The items requested are items our students desire to have but often cannot buy or access, for example, new athletic balls to get our students outside engaging in physical activity, which has been proven to relieve stress and lead to healthier minds and bodies; hacky sacks to support students' foot - eye coordination, as well as their soccer skills and love; art supplies and origami books to support creativity; chess to challenge students' problem solving skills- strengthening their brain capacity; and items that make our students feel good like, hats with smiley faces, fun groovy sunglasses, a book about World Cup soccer, and a letter board for inspirational messages. These items will be used to acknowledge our students' hard work and progress, as well as provide physical and creative outlets which support brain development. In March and April, we have our version of March Madness when we celebrate our students' commitment to putting forth their best effort to achieve their goals. These items will be part of our acknowledgment of their hard work.
