Hardhats, Hammers, and Heroes: Serving Our Veterans

Help me give my students protective hard hats and hammers to use while building a special community service project for our US military veterans.

My Project

My carpentry students have taken on a very special community service project to give back to our US military veterans who have been wounded while serving our country.

In partnering with Jeep Sullivan's Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures, we are building a handicap-accessible, mobile hunting shed that will allow veterans to experience guided hunting adventures in the great outdoors.

As the students gear up to build roof trusses and put on the roof system of this building, they need the proper PPE and framing hammers.

In addition to this great community service project, students will have the opportunity to permanently earn these tools as part of my "Earn Your Edge" toolbox program, which encourages the students to pass their OSHA10 certification and their NCCER carpentry certification exams. It's a win-win for both the veterans and students!
