My Project
Help for our students can come in many different ways. School resources, such as enough pencils, paper and books go a very long way. However, children are just children and enjoy many of the same other things that are included in a happy life.
Our school services a low income area where all students receive free lunch and breakfast.
The groups I teach are students who also have diverse special needs. Many are autistic and/or developmentally delayed in specific areas. They have select groups of foods that they'll eat, places they'll sit and even resources they'll use. When these things don't remain constant it creates many adverse domino effects for them. Often, these students opt to not eat at all. Many of their family never send additional foods or snacks of any type just in case. To be able to provide alternatives for them often makes all the difference. These differences may lead to a student learning presented materials or not for that day.
Snacks and add-ons presented were specifically chosen for my 4th-5th graders as alternatives for when they believe the cafeteria has let them down. Some will also be used as incentives for better performance on a daily basis as well.
