Happy Times at the Listening Center!

My students need a new listening center so we can listen to stories and dance to the music! We love reading and moving.

My Students

It is very relaxing to sit back in a comfortable chair, grab a book and listen to a story. Young children also love dancing, moving and singing to music. Isn't it great to see a child keep rhythm to music. This listening center will provide my students those opportunities on a daily basis.

My classroom provides education to mentally impaired children who are in kindergarten through second grade.

My students have a variety of disabilities including Down Syndrome, cognitive disability, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, autism and other health impairments. My students live in a high poverty area so their opportunities are often limited. My students are inquisitive and excited about learning. Providing them with as many new experiences as possible is a high priority. Keeping their learning environment fun and inviting is a key to their continued learning. Reading and music are favorites!

My Project

Wouldn't the day be boring without the sound of turning pages of a book or music playing. Having this listening center will provide hours of learning and enjoyment to a classroom of very sweet children. Children learn so much from music. Music helps focus a learner's attention. It helps aid recall of information and stimulates interest in subjects across the curriculum. It uses so many of our senses and encourages students to use auditory, kinesthetic and tactile modes to enhance learning. When children sit down to hear a book on CD they are able to visualize the story in their heads while following along on the pages. The children can listen to a book over and over when it is on CD. This listening center will provide my students the opportunity to enjoy books with CD and music. How much better can it get!

Instilling the joy of reading and music at a young age will impact these children all their lives.

I know, as an adult, that I can go to a book or turn on music to relax and find enjoyment. Please help my students learn to appreciate these two wonderful experiences that they will carry with them forever! Thank you.
