Do you remember reading chapter books in the first grade? Did you have manipulatives to help you with your math facts? My students would love to dissect reading passages that interest them. Math is so much fun when you work with tools to help you understand the concept. Help us do this!
I teach 24 eager and bright students.
They come from all over our city. Most of my students are able to read two grade levels above. Our school is very diverse with a vast array of cultures from around the world. My students are very passionate about learning. They supply me with an open mind to embark as much learning that they can absorb. The student's families are extremely supportive and are willing to do what it takes for their children to succeed.
My Project
I am eager to get the chance to help children experience other facets of learning mathematics. By doing this, they will work with manipulatives and discover other strategies to help them comprehend the mathematical concepts better. It is important to know the answer. It is even more important to know how you got the answer.
My students will also get the opportunity to read more complex text that challenges them to think and look in the text to find the answer. Once they find the answer, they will be able to find supporting details in the text as well. My students will learn that it is important to have an opinion but they have to support it with information from the text.
Common Core is where our nation is moving towards.
At this time I do not have all the resources needed to meet this challenge. I want to offer my students the resources and tools they need to succeed. I do not want them left behind, but able to compete with other students around the world.
