My Project

The items in my wishlist will help me to address the fine motor and sensory motor needs of the many students I treat for occupational therapy in the school district. I work with students with a range of abilities and special needs from Pre K through high school. Many of my wonderful student become more calm and regulated when they are able to engage in sensory activities that help regulate their nervous systems. Since each child is unique, they all have varied preferences but many of them love proprioceptive input, tactile input, and vestibular input which have been difficult for me to provide with a limited budget. Included on my wish list of items to help meet my students' sensory needs are items like wobble boards to help them get their wiggles out, while also working on balance and providing vestibular input that many of them are seeking. I have also included items like glitter glue and kinetic sand to address tactile needs and weighted balls and body socks for proprioceptive input.

In addition to sensory items, I have also included games and craft materials to help make working on fine motor skills more fun and engaging.

I love making arts and crafts with my students, however we are always short on materials, especially colorful and quality materials. I am eager to work on collage and mixed media art pieces with my students using the materials on my wishlist. The fun games with tongs, small pieces to insert, and puzzles will be very motivating to help my students work on hand strengthening, visual motor integration, and fine motor precision needed for writing and so many other daily educational activities.
