This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are Tulsa Public School kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, write, build and read. As the ELD teacher for kindergarten and first grade, I spend my time pushing into classrooms to teach English language learners. We are about to go 100% in person and it's going to be tight quarters in our small classrooms.
My students come from impoverished backgrounds, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our Tulsa Public school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.
My Project
This project is for a bookcase that resembles a fireplace. It will be placed below my smart board and will help my small classroom feel homey. As an ELL teacher for Tulsa Public Schools, I am always looking to make my small groups feel at home. My room is comfortable, but because I often pull kids from different classrooms, I'm trying to set a tone of working together towards a goal.
Students love coming to learn in our small groups and they need opportunities to speak, listen, read and write in English.
These multilingual students are ready for a homey atmosphere.
