My Students need 14 fiction and nonfiction books and an Abe Lincoln growth chart.

This project is fully funded

I teach second grade at a small school in rural Indiana. There are many students from low-income families. We like to use holidays and special occasions as teachable moments. We want to learn about Lincoln and celebrate his upcoming 200th birthday.

Our current resources related to Abraham Lincoln are slim. We have only a few books dedicated to our 16th president. It is a disgrace to our school and my classroom to not have more information available on such a notable historical figure.

I want to provide information in the form of fiction and nonfiction books for the students to read individually and do research projects. I want to be able to celebrate the life of the president by recognizing his 200th birthday. I want the students to learn the importance of Abe’s life and the impact he has on our current society. I would also like to include a life size growth chart to enable the students to recognize the incredible size of Lincoln.

Do you remember learning about one of the most notable presidents in the United States history, Abe Lincoln? My students know bits and pieces about the man they see on the five dollar bill, but I want them to know more. I want them to know who his best friend was as a boy and how he saved his life. I want my students to learn about the importance of the emancipation proclamation. Lincoln was a remarkable president and I want my students to learn about and celebrate his accomplishments.
