This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The seventh-grade hallway at my school is a space filled with joy, laughter, and fun. A lot of that positive energy stems from the themed decorations that are put up throughout the year. Throughout the week before students go off to spring break, they will be finding ways in which they relate to the characters in Encanto, our chosen hallway theme for that month. Students will be completing a series of assignments which include writing, building models, drawing pictures, and helping to decorate the hallway in ways that are representative of the character they most relate to. An example of a project that students will complete is building a structure that represents the beauty of nature using flowers, which is representative of the character Isabela in the movie. Doing this requires a lot of supplies to decorate the hallway, print necessary worksheets, and spread joy before students are off for a week.

The beauty displayed in the hallway makes students feel important and joyful and encourages them to take pride in their learning.

Each grading period, the hallway decorations change to a new theme and students are always excited to see each theme come to life and be a part of the designing/decorating process. Decorating the hallway has become a staple way for me and other teachers to show students that they matter and deserve a beautiful space to learn and is also a great way to make connections to work being done in classrooms. I hope to be able to continue to beautify our hallways with your help!
