This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students from our school come from all over the world, representing languages, such as Spanish, Khmer, Burmese, Nepali, Vietnamese, Lao, Indonesian, French, Swahili, Lingala, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Pashto, and Malay. We are proud to say that this diversity is our strength.
My students are enthusiastic and dedicated learners, but are met with challenges such as learning a new language.
They deserve an environment that sees their bilingualism and multilingualism as an asset and builds on it. After all, they are the heart of our school community!
My Project
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our students have not had in-person schooling since March 2020. The pandemic has impacted our students in various ways: financially, academically, and socially.
The COVID-19 pandemic has also impacted our students' fine motor skills development.
While distance learning has allowed students to gain digital skills, they are also losing handwriting practice and thus, there has been a decline in fine motor skills at such a crucial age. Our grade team would like to provide our students with Handwriting Without Tears books and manipulatives that they can use at home during distance learning. They would be distributed safely to families.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
