Hands-On With High Tech: 3d Printing for Young Inventors

Help me give my students a MakerBot 3D printer to explore 21st-century technology through hands-on STEM projects that spark creativity, innovation, and real-world problem-solving skills.

My Project

I teach an amazing group of curious, creative 6th graders who thrive when given the chance to explore, experiment, and create. Our classroom is a space where learning is active, hands-on, and connected to the real world. We focus on building 21st-century skills like problem-solving, collaboration, and design thinking, and a 3D printer will take that learning to a whole new level.

With a MakerBot 3D printer, my students will be able to make meaningful cross-curricular connections.

In science, we’ll design and print models of plant and animal cells to explore structure and function. In social studies, we’ll replicate ancient artifacts as we study early civilizations. In math, we’ll deepen our understanding of geometry, volume, and surface area by designing and building 3D shapes. These experiences will turn abstract ideas into tangible creations and help students see how subjects connect and apply to the world around them.

Most of my students do not have access to this type of technology at home. Bringing a 3D printer into our classroom will have a powerful impact, not just on their curiosity and comprehension, but on their confidence in using modern tech tools. This technology will also be especially beneficial for students with disabilities, including those with limited vision, by allowing them to interact with tactile, 3D models they can explore through touch, making learning more accessible and meaningful for all.

A 3D printer will open new doors for all of my students, turning their ideas into reality and helping them become the creators, thinkers, and problem-solvers of tomorrow.
