Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds at a school where over 90% students qualify for free and reduced price lunch. Families come from all over the world, and kids come to class in various states of readiness to learn. All want to learn, and love to learn. Brain research shows that students learn best when their minds, bodies, and senses are immersed in the curriculum. I strive to support strong and struggling learners and everyone in between, and I believe this project will help me achieve this goal!

My Project

Maria Montessori, a pioneer of child-centered education, was known to say, "we should never give the brain more than we give the hand." Sadly, as students progress in their schooling, fewer and fewer opportunities are provided to feel and experience the learning with their hands. I would like to stock my classroom with the tools to make manipulation of math, social studies, and science concepts possible.

My aim is to provide all of my students with hands-on learning in math, social studies, and science.

In upper elementary and beyond, it can become difficult to provide meaningful, rigorous, hands-on work. Students often struggle with hearing and internalizing an explanation of an abstract math concept. Ancient history can be too far in the past to be engaging. Science is best understood through experimentation! I would love these cultural games and fabrics, science models and kits, and math tools to provide a whole body learning experience for my class!

Please consider helping us gain these tools to make our math, social studies, and science classes more tactile! Let's make learning stick!
