Help me give my students the experiences they need to become tomorrow's leaders. Games, paints, puzzles, and engaging math tools will allow them to engage as active rather than passive learners as they strengthen their understanding.
I teach in a Philadelphia public school situated in the heart of the city. Our school serves about 600 neighborhood children from kindergarten through fourth grade. Ours is a Title I school where our children qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Many of our children have not been regularly exposed to reading experiences prior to school. Many have undergone trauma or have faced challenges in their lives that overshadow the focus on those skills required to set them up for academic success. Many have been without the tactile tools needed to grow each of their developing brains to the maximum potential that they deserve.
Together, we can provide the entire third grade with a wide variety of hands-on opportunities to extend conceptual learning and strengthen communication skills.
They are enthusiastic and so happy to be back in person. It should be the year they've waited for and I intend to give them that with your help. They have followed every protocol and continue to try to make the best out of our new normal. Just because we are keeping our distance and wearing masks, they should continue to wake up every day excited to come to learn. They deserve that.
My Project
In school, our third graders will build conceptual understanding in math, literacy, science and social studies by engaging with the tools on hand to demonstrate and extend that learning. Further, they will sharpen those skills needed to become successful citizens by participating and communicating with their peers and teachers to meet goals together.
Today, more than ever, we need to do all we can to foster appropriate, effective communication skills among our most impressionable learners.
Indoor and outdoor play will support this growth and students will be encouraged to safely interact with others in respectful, efficient ways that will allow them to see the benefits of those positive, team building experiences.
