Hands on Technology

My students need tablets in order to interact with Mathematical websites to strengthen skills and protection plans so if mistakes are made we can get it repaired!

My Students

We start off with an overview of the expectations of the days lesson. There is a focus wall and we discuss the goals they must meet and how it will be assessed on state assessments at the end of the year.

My students are considered economically disadvantaged.100% of the school population receives free lunch.

Many do not have computers at home. They do not have anyone at home to help them with assignments. There are few parents who are actively involved in school activities. Students have little to no exposure to technology once the leave the school.

My Project

One of the pros of the common core is that it encourages use of technology. However, we lack the technology to afford our students the opportunity to learn to use it in the proper manners. With the tablets, I will be able to create a technology center in my classroom. Students can rotate through the center each having an opportunity to practice the skills they will need for end of year assessments. Mississippi is testing students mastery of concepts by also testing their familiarity with the technology that is related to the concepts.

Although we cannot purchase computers for each child, we can take advantage of a technology center.

Students will get a chance to drag and drop, construct, and measure etc as expected on the test as a group. Then rotate to the center to practice individually. This allows the students to be more comfortable by seeing and the experience answering the types of items they will be expected to be familiar with; instead of going in blind.
