This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help my students succeed with technology. I teach over 210 inner city students. With limited numbers of textbooks over 20 years old, iPods would help them use the technology they know and help them access information and use this in learning the language and keep their interest level high.
My students are just like my own two teenagers.
They want attention, they don't want to work if they don't have to, and with guidance I think they can learn to succeed and realize that a foreign language would make them more marketable in a competitive job market and a suffering economy.
I want them to succeed and learn the language, and for the heritage speakers to become grammatically proficient in the language. The students don't realize they are so blessed to know two languages, and I want to help them find careers in which they can use a second language.
My Project
I want my students to be able to access online dictionaries to be able to spell-check their work. I want them to be able to access career resources so they can research information pertaining to foreign language careers.
With the iPods, they will be able to go online and use the free activities to reinforce the grammar and vocabulary we are learning in each chapter. They will become better learners and speakers in the foreign language. I want them to realize that learning a second language will open the doors of opportunity for them.
Over 80% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunches.
Research shows that technology in the hands of slower learners show greater improvement. Utilizing iPods will allow my students to access Spanish resources immediately, and enhance and improve their reading and writing. This will help their PSSA, and the skills they learn can be applied to their other content areas.
