Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These students are very sweet but can come from rough home environments. The classroom is their safe place to be kids. These students love to create, build, learn, revise their thinking, share and so much more in our classroom. Most of our students come from Spanish speaking homes and live in small dwellings, with large families. They don't all have the support they need, so our most difficult task is to help each of them succeed and shine in their own way. Many of these students do not have access to technology at home and do not have many life experiences that others are so lucky to have. A majority of them struggle in the classroom academically. The dynamics of my class are very interesting because students range high to low academically, and some have learning disabilities. This is my school's 3rd year having a S.T.E.A.M Magnet Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) on site and this project will allow us to go beyond the surface of these subjects. Due to lack of funding, we do not have the materials we need to support my students' learning goals and styles.
My Project
All of these materials will help my students not only work with their hands but work with their peers. These materials will work to boost our math. science, technology, and engineering lessons!
They will build independence, confidence, leadership skills and ultimately assist in their willingness to participate in the classroom.
We need all the extra hands-on experiences and opportunities to be more successful learners. Our classroom will become an even better learning environment because these materials will allow us to work toward our classroom goals.
The Legos will be used for learning about fractions and buidling. The K'nex and the Lego Boost will allow students to compete in STEAM challenges. The laser maze will give them extra challenges when we are working in centers and they need something new to explore independently.
