This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Jean-Jacques Rousseau said, "We should not teach children the sciences but give them a taste for them." As a 1st grade teacher, I want to appeal to my students intrinsic curiosities so science is not only a subject at school, but also a way of looking at and exploring the world around them.

Our school is Title 1 and it serves a mixed socioeconomic group.

The experiences of my students are broad ranging. I am challenged to level the playing field by providing all of my students with a rich learning environment. As with all children, my students crave hands-on, engaging learning experiences. They are eager to explore and learn science.

My Project

Last year I started a science table that my student are able to go to during center time. The goal of the table is for students to explore science using inquiry. Students are also expected to write about their science investigations. Currently the materials I have are those I have found or made. In truth, it is quite minimal. Despite this, it was one of my students favorite centers to work at. By donating to my classroom you are providing young learners with more meaningful learning experiences in science. They will be able to explore, manipulate, experiment, and discuss their scientific inquiry in magnetism, sound, buoyancy, motion, color, and magnification. My students will be able to build science vocabulary and problem-solving skills, as well as increase their funds of knowledge through fun science "play."
