My students need Painted Lady butterfly larvae, a poster about the life cycle of Painted Lady butterflies, a camera to document the stages of life for a movie, and some Mallow plants.
I teach twenty-five happy and excited-to-learn third graders. All day long they have fun growing, thinking, and trying their best. Our school is a wonderful, small multicultural school located in Los Angeles. Over 32% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and everyone receives free breakfast. Our class loves hands-on activities, and we are growing organic vegetables and milkweed in our school garden. The milkweed will help attract butterflies to our school garden!
This project will help our class receive live caterpillars so we can watch the life cycle of Painted Lady butterflies.
My Project
Students rarely get to have the chance to watch the life cycle of a butterfly - up close! We have special large butterfly habitats for the caterpillars to be placed in, now all we need are the caterpillars so my students can watch the growth of the caterpillars every day!
This project will bring live caterpillars to our classroom so my students can watch the caterpillars grow, transform into cocoons, and emerge from their cocoons into Painted Lady butterflies!
We will have each student release a butterfly into our school garden, where Mallow plants will be growing so the butterfly can eat their favorite food and hopefully begin the butterfly life cycle again!
I have requested Painted Lady butterfly larvae, a camera to document the stages of life for a stop motion movie my students will be making, some Mallow plants for the Painted Lady butterflies to eat in our school garden, and a poster about the life cycle of Painted Lady butterflies.
Your help donating to this project means that my students get to participate in a wonderful experience of the life cycle of a butterfly - up close!
