Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember being in Science class and the teacher announced "dissections"? Regardless your personal experience, it was a learning event like no other. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, students in our area miss out on this experience.
Most of my students come from poverty stricken homes, where all of them receive free lunch.
Our school make up is half Hispanic and half African American, and all of them want to go to college. Some of my best students stay in single bedroom apartments with several families living together. Most are very appreciative and kind spirited, but often miss out on many everyday experiences due to financial situations.
My Project
In my Life Science class students learn about the body systems. At the end of the semester we like to end with a frog dissection to allow students to identify first hand, real anatomy organs.
This single lab not only encourages students to inquire more about science, it also promotes higher learning in high school and college where they can become balanced citizens in our area. They are just as worthy as other students.
Above all, my students deserve to have the same experiences as other students throughout the nation.
When my students watch sitcoms I don't want them to feel like second-rate students; they deserve to have the same science experiences as others. Help me create memories they too can look back on.
