As a teaching team, Gwen Rubio and I are requesting materials for our AP environmental science ecocolumn project. This term-long project provides our students with a hands-on opportunity to explore ecological concepts in a real-world context. By building and observing ecocolumns, they will gain a deeper understanding of how ecosystems function and the delicate balance between organisms and their environments. This project will help students develop critical skills like problem-solving and analytical thinking as they monitor their mini ecosystems and assess how changes impact their health. Our goal is to deepen their understanding of sustainability, biodiversity, and environmental responsibility, while encouraging them to apply this knowledge to global challenges. What makes our students unique is their passion for learning and their genuine desire to make a difference. They are eager to understand environmental issues and excited to take on the challenges of preserving the planet for future generations. This project will provide our seven AP classes with the materials necessary to run one ecocolumn per lab group. Most of these items are non-consumable, allowing us to continue this project with future students for years to come.
