My Project

Science in the special education classroom can be one of the most interesting subjects to teach and engage students. It can also be one of the toughest areas to teach effectively for students with special needs. I teach early childhood special education students in a 6:1:1 setting. All of the students in my class are on the autism spectrum and have complex sensory and learning needs. Finding enough material at the right level to allow my students to explore challenging curriculum topics can be really tough. Hands-on materials in this project will help my students to understand complex science concepts and learn through fun and exploration.

Our students will learn about the five senses, plants, animals, bugs & insects, weather & seasons, life cycles, nutrition magnets, and many more as they engage in interactive games with their peers.

They will make hands-on science discoveries, and explore and use their critical thinking while completing each activity. Science will become fun and interesting through the excitement they will explore these hands-on materials.
