My students need batteries, pens, and gloves to perform experiments.
FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Mureria's classroom raised $223
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students range from 13 to 20 years of age. They are boys and girls who speak a variety of first languages. They attend an urban high school within the poorest region of the city. Twenty-one point seven percent are English learners. Ninety-nine percent are economically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Education is a means for changing these students' lives.
They learn better using visuals. Students whose first language is English have mixed abilities. Due to budget cuts, the school does not supply materials like colored paper and electric sharpeners. Some students cannot afford a constant supply of required supplies. In addition, a number of students do not live in one place because the parents are either separated or the students live in a foster home. This affects their stability and consistent structure, and therefore often come to school unprepared.
My Project
The pens will be supplied to those students who will come to class unprepared and reduce any idle time that may result from lack of writing materials. Students who lack school supplies because they cannot afford them, will not feel disadvantaged among other students.
Students are likely to be more engaged when they do experiments to support the theory in class.
This is a more meaningful way of learning. The batteries will be used for both chemistry and physics experiments. Safety is an important aspect of science experiments. The gloves will be used to protect the students' hands as they interact the lab materials.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
