My Students
Do you know how to recycle? I am not just talking about collecting recyclable goods and turning them into a recycling center. I mean truly know how to recycle items and make them into new reusable items. This is what my students want to do.
My students are all intellectually delayed.
They have a variety of disabilities including but not limited to autism, chromosomal disorders, and other health impairments. My students have been collecting recycling for our entire school and turning it in to a recycling center. They think that is all recycling is. They are not able to get a full understanding of the process of recycling to make something new without hands-on experience.
My Project
This year we carried the collected materials over to the recycling center. The recycling got very heavy. Therefore, I am requesting a rolling recycling cart for us to use for items we will not be reusing. I am also requesting art supplies such as glue, tape, wiggly eyes, paint, wooden spoons, and rubber bands to use to make new creations such as bird feeders, hanging planters, bubble blowers, bracelets, and piggy banks out of old recycled water bottles.
With your assistance, I can help my students fully understand how to reduce the waste in our landfills by reusing items we recycle.
They will do hands-on projects that produce new items out of recycled items.
