Hands On, Project Based Learning in Math

My students need Unifix cubes, base 10 blocks, base 10 block stamps, two-color counters, and dice for math investigations and project based learning activities.

My Students

Do you remember when you were a first grader and mixed up numbers like 12 and 21? The following materials will be used to teach exciting, hands-on math lessons that make tricky math concepts easy to understand.

My students are passionate about science, technology, engineering, and math!

They are curious about the world around them and enjoy coming to school to learn. Working with math tools that they can see, touch, and manipulate helps strengthen their number sense and confidence in math. Most of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch due to financial need even though one or both parents are working. They are great kids who will benefit from developing a love for math.

My Project

The following materials will be used to teach exciting, hands-on project based learning in science, technology, engineering,and math (STEM) which will prepare these first graders to compete in a global marketplace in the future. Studies show that students exposed to STEM educational resources in early elementary perform better in math and science than those who are not.

Children often decide whether or not they are good at math or like math at a young age. Engaging lessons with the right math tools helps all of my students feel successful and confident. If this project is funded, we'll be using these math manipulatives almost every single day year after year. Thank you for making this possible!
