Hands-On Phonics Fun!

My students need manipulatives to help them with letter formation, letter stamps for word work, and fun activities to help with word building and fluency.

My Students

Each morning, I begin the day welcoming 20 bright, smiling, and eager students into my kindergarten class. They come from a variety of backgrounds, ethnicities, and socioeconomic statuses, coming together to create a diverse classroom community where we learn something new from each other each day!

My students are kind, creative, and eager to learn.

They love to practice the things they're good at, but even more so love a challenge! Their eyes light up when presented with one, their attention focused and their brains fully engaged. I try to foster a can-do, try-try-again attitude when it comes to "the tricky stuff."

My Project

My students crave hands-on, varied practice for learning how to form letters, blend words, and read sight words with purpose and fluency. The magnetic sticks and curves will help students form letters in a tactile way before having to use a pencil. Letter stamps will allow them to practice their names, CVC words, or sight words using play-doh or ink and paper. The letter snap cubes will help them build words, and I will write letters, word families, and sight words on the blank foam cubes so we can practice our letters and words in the form of various games. The sight word poem books will help reinforce sight words and fluency. With these materials, my students will be able to practice concepts again and again, building their confidence and foundational skills in literacy. Letter formation, word building, and opportunities to read and write sight words in a meaningful context will provide them with the foundational skills they need for educational success in kindergarten and beyond.

Providing students with learning materials that can be used time and again for multiple learning opportunities will not just benefit my class this year, but also many kindergartners in the coming years. Providing children with the right tools, environment, and atmosphere will ensure they have the best possible chance at succeeding not just in academics, but in life.
