This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember hearing books read aloud to you when you were a child? When you read books aloud to children it sparks their imagination! My students love story time, yet struggle with understanding the stories because they are English language learners.
I teach kindergarten to a diverse population of English language learners.
Most of my students enter my classroom with little to no English and no school experience. My students are eager to learn, but rely heavily upon visuals to help learn the language. Everything I do in the classroom must have a visual support to help support language learning.
My Project
These resources will provide the visual cues that my students need to understand the stories as well as opportunities to retell the stories with the hands on tools. Children LOVE retelling stories and these resources are perfect for individual use. These resources provide incredible support for my English Language learners to build language, comprehension as well as beginning rhyming skills that will support them as they learn how to read.
Children love to play and with these bright and colorful materials, my students will love to use these during reading time.
These materials are a wonderful beginning point as student become exposed to books and story language. Children will gain an awareness of story elements, build language and confidence in the English language!
