Hands-On Not Off!

My students need math games to be able to use their mathematical skills in more competitive, real-world, and everyday life experiences.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. May's classroom raised $235

My Students

My classroom is a 4th grade classroom consisting of boys and girls that range from 9 - 11 years old. My students come from economically disadvantaged homes in the inner city of the largest urban school district in the state. All of our students are at-risk and receive free or reduced lunch. Majority of my students rely on school transportation and are not able to physically experience the world around them.

The students in my classroom are competitive, motivated and eager to learn.

Their creative minds and energy creates a community that allows lessons to relate to their personal lives and community issues. They know they have the ability to amount to greatness, they just need the guidance and materials to assist them!

My Project

The math games will allow the students to put their mathematical skills to use. They will gain experience in higher level thinking and healthy competitiveness while manipulatives in real life experiences. The games will improve their school lives by relating topics to more interesting activities which will assist with their retention. Working with their peers will allow them to gain clarity from another students point of view and different strategies students may have. These activities can be used during daily rotations and during board games day.

Your generous donation to our class will help engage our students and relate their mathematical skills to every day life!

The division and multiplication towers will help build and reinforce their fluency which is a major component of 4th grade. The ATM and allowance games will allow the students to have real experience with how to budget their money. Students need to understand how to use their strategies in a more realistic setting than with a word problem. The games require them to solve problems with out technology and use their own problem solving abilities to determine the best choices to outsmart their opponents!
