Hands-On Morning Bins in Kindergarten

My Students

I cannot wait to meet my new group of Kindergarteners. Together we will grow as wonderers, mathematicians, readers, writers, artists and scientists. They will ask questions, explore and discover. They will work together and strive to do their personal best. They will arrive at school eager to share their observations and thoughts about the world around them.

I love Kindergarteners, their enthusiasm and curiosity are a source of daily inspiration.

Every day we will work, learn and grow together at our arts and inquiry based elementary school. I am lucky to work with these amazing students for 2 years. I am excited to watch them grow and develop during their first school years.

My Project

I have been teaching for many years and I see the need for an important shift in our morning routine. Some students come in late and others need time to settle in. Instead of rushing to the rug to begin our day, students will be greeted at the door, put their things away and pull out a morning work bin. These bins will be filled with engaging materials and activities selected to build fine motor skills and reinforce standards taught throughout the school day. They will work on skills including counting, sorting, building and collaborating. Each day they will work with a new partner, giving all students opportunities to work together.

Giving kids the time to work on these fun and predictable activities will enable me to do the lunch count and attendance and more importantly, check in with students who need extra support beginning the day.
