Hands-On, Minds-On STEM: Computer Science For All with Coding Robots

My Students

In my STEM class, I have the privilege of teaching ALL students from Kindergarten to Eighth grade. I am lucky enough to have the chance to be a part of every child's educational journey.

My students are eager to learn and ready for new and exciting experiences to help to grow their brains and problem solving skills!

My students may be from a small town, but they have BIG IDEAS and are primed to take on the future of computer science and programming!

With our town being a rural, farming community, a great deal of my students have a strong interest in hands-on learning experiences and thrive in that educational milieu. My students need opportunities to improve their real-world problem solving skills, while still being provided enriching opportunities to discover their own talents and strengths that will lead them towards successful and impactful careers.

My Project

In order to bring rich, STEM based coding experiences to my students, grades K-8, a variety of coding robots are necessary. We are requesting these code-based robots, Botley, Dash, and Sphero, which will give students the opportunity to work with their hands-on and brains-on.

The flexibility of code-based robots will provide over 500 students a multitude of learning experiences that will increase their computer science and problem solving skills in a fun, exciting way that could spark an interest for life.

These hands-on robots will help the next generation of programmers and coders develop foundational skills that are necessary for future success in the ever-growing important 21st century tech-based vocations.

The products I have selected are versatile and can be used to help our entire student body learn and develop a love of computer science and coding. With so many future careers being rooted in technology and computer science, learning opportunities using products like these coding robots are necessary to help develop the thinking skills needed for the future of our society.
