My Students

The 3rd grade students in my Sandy, Utah classroom come to school every day eager to connect with their peers and community. They are creative, thoughtful, and eager to extend their thinking. They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to stretch their thinking to find innovative and reasonable solutions!

We come from unique cultures and backgrounds.

We vary in strengths and abilities, but we all share the love of books, reading, exploring, and being immersed in new things. We use a variety of learning strategies, group work, alternative seating, and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met!

They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and grateful to have students that are excited and ready to learn!

My Project

My 3rd Grade students love to explore, imagine and dream about how things work in our world. They love to read, write, question, and hypothesize answers to the millions of questions they have every day! With new materials, students will be able to explore many big idea modules, using a 3-dimensional lens.

It's time to put the students back into the classroom, with engaging hands-on science activities.

In our 3rd grade curriculum, Module 1 challenges students with a phenomenon to think about how skateboarders are able to get to the top of the ramp! Through inquiry and investigations, students will be using simple tools like ramps, cars, and stopwatches to engage all learners. In this module, students will carry out investigations to observe, measure, and time an object’s motion, as well as perform investigations to explore how forces relate to motion. We are also looking forward to learning about weather patterns in Module 4. In this module, students will obtain and analyze data about climate and how it varies in different regions. They will also learn to argue how natural hazards cause both temporary and permanent changes to the environment and all organisms living there. During all experimentation, student safety is crucial with safety goggles, and plastic gloves while handling organic soil samples. By looking in-depth at the book series, "Who Was," students can read and learn about the lives of Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Marie Curie, and Albert Einstein. Perfect examples of individuals who used cross-cutting ideas and a growth mindset for their scientific and mathematical discoveries.

With the combination of 3rd graders, the right tools, and real-world questions, understanding comes alive! By donating to our project, our classroom will change from book learning to hands-on learning, which will enhance understanding by engaging multiple.
