Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In Kindergarten having the right teaching tools and manipulatives for hand-on learning makes a huge difference. The items purchased will be used to teach one-to-one correspondence, counting, patterning, and sorting as well as geometric shape identification.

The majority of my students are second language learners.

Most did not go to pre-school and most of my students do not have parents that work with them at home on basic skills. Not only our my students second language learners, but most are on free/reduced lunch. Their parents cannot afford to buy them fancy teaching gadgets. Having these in the classroom will help to make learning fun.

My Project

Giving my students every chance at learning math so that they can apply it to their every day world is my goal. I want my kids to LOVE math as much as I LOVE to teach it. Having hand-on materials will help me to teach the basic concept my kids need to learn in kindergarten. My student participate in hand-on math work stations. Most of the activities I have created myself. Having some good teaching manipulatives to use during math time will make it more enjoyable and valuable to the students. this project will provide students with counting mats and manipulatives, linking chains for patterning and counting, geometric foam shapes to teach geometry and a math manipulative library that includes a variety of items used for hands-on learning for counting, one-to-one correspondence, addition, subtraction and patterning.

My project is important to me because growing up I hated math.

As a teacher, I see how much fun math can be if you just have the right tools. I want my students to have an excellent foundation in basic math skills before moving onto first grade.
